Domain Name Registration
The first step to getting your business on the internet is to select and register your domain name. The domain name is the web address that you will advertise in the market place for your customers to find you directly on the internet.
Selecting your domain name does not need to be a difficult decision. It is however an important one. We advise you consider four things in making this decision:
1.The name you choose should be something that your customers can remember. Preferably a name that reflects the business name or brand you are promoting.
2.It is advised that the name you select be shorter rather than longer, to reduce the typing required by your customers, and to increase the likelihood of people remembering it.
3.There are limits on domain names, and you are not entitled to use some names that are common industry terms. This is a legislative requirement that Web Management is required to pass on. In recent years, legislation has been relaxed in some areas, with names that are used for categories found in a phone book. E.g. www.plumbers.com, www.physiotherapy.com.au being sold by the auDA to the highest bidder. Generally, these names are not available.
4.The selection of the suffix to your domain name is up to you. The following are some general application rules:
